Wawrinka was driving 6-4 7-5 2-1 when world number one Djokovic, who won four of the last five Grand Slam titles, chose he couldn’t proceed and strolled off the Arthur Ashe Stadium court to a chorale of boos.

“It’s never the manner in which you need to complete a match,” said Wawrinka. “I am extremely upset for Novak, he’s an astonishing companion.”
