Tennis news : Novak Djokovic’s U.S. Open title resistance stopped on Sunday when the Serb resigned from his fourth-round match against Stan Wawrinka because of shoulder damage.

Wawrinka was driving 6-4 7-5 2-1 when world number one Djokovic, who won four of the last five Grand Slam titles, chose he couldn’t proceed and strolled off the Arthur Ashe Stadium court to a chorale of boos.

“It’s never the manner in which you need to complete a match,” said Wawrinka. “I am extremely upset for Novak, he’s an astonishing companion.”

The shoulder issue erupted recently and about observed Djokovic thumped out in the second round on Wednesday however the 32-year-old appeared to have recuperated by Friday when he won in straight sets to arrive at the last 16.
